Nancy Elkind and David Harston Speak on I-9 Enforcement at the Colorado Bar Association
Denver, Colorado, April 24th – Palmer Polaski partners Nancy Elkind and David Harston spoke today at the Colorado Bar Association on increasing I-9 enforcement and employer sanctions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The presentation included a review of the rules regarding each employer’s obligation to complete, maintain and purge Forms I-9, as well as I-9 audits, and the consequences to employers for failing to meet these obligations. “Employers who ignore the I-9 rules do so at their own peril as ICE will pursue criminal charges against those who blatantly disregard the law. However, even strict technical compliance seems to have become a goal of ICE. Even those employers who do their best to abide by the rules can be hit with fines or notices of non-compliance,” said Palmer Polaski partner, Nancy Elkind. Ms. Elkind and Mr. Harston are the co-authors of the article, Ever-expanding Enforcement- I-9 Compliance and Employer Sanctions, published in the Colorado Bar Association’s Immigration Law for the Colorado Practitioner. Palmer Polaski partners Nancy Elkind, Philip Alterman, and David Harston are the managing editors for Immigration Law for the Colorado Practitioner.
